Pace. Peace. Paix. - Eva Wissenz

I’m honored and so happy to participate to the Conference about "Empowering Peace : The role of civil society in peace building and conflict transformation", held in Tampere University, 1-4 June.

I will share about global warming pressure. and the impact of global warming consequences on peace. It is now clear from IPCC reports and multiple sources that global warming is happening and accelerating. It has and will continue to have a huge impact on our vital resources. We all know that governments must take more decisive actions and that we should all try our best to control our emissions of CO2. But that being said, there is a huge challenge that is less visible when it comes to sustainability and climate change : how the crisis created by this massive and complex change is going to affect peace ? And how by bringing more awareness about it into our every day discussions can we help prevent a raise of racism, rejection, violence of all kinds ?

By bringing all the aspects of climate change crisis in the heart of the society, we can inform more and more in a constructive way about solutions and options. This would bring citizens more confidence in their own ability to address the challenges and make choices that are reinforcing durable peace.

The event is organized by the European Peace Research Association, Tapri and Tamk.
